WHAT IS GLAM DECOR STYLE? THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF INDULGENT LUXURY

Whenever I’m creating a glam-inspired tablescape, I always start with a neutral color palette and then add in touches of opulence: metallic centerpieces, gold-dusted flower arrangements, and a shimmering candle. As you can see in the video, neutral contrasts are key to glam style. A more subtle base palette allows opulent pieces to take center stage, setting the mood of the space without overwhelming the design.

The basic principles of glam decor style

Glam decor is actually quite diverse. Though many associate it with old Hollywood (and they’re not wrong!), there are a few different ways to approach a glam style: art deco glam, modern glam, retro glam. The list really does go on and on. Still, each approach to glam decor utilizes the same foundational elements: architectural elements, reflective materials, high-quality and luxurious fabrics, varied textures and patterns, statement pieces, and of course, neutral color palettes.

Glam decor invites concentrated details of luxury: metallic vases, oversized mirrors, faux fur rugs, velvet furniture, marble end tables— bespoke of timeless elegance.  It is possible, however, for glam decor to feel too pronounced, and therefore, unrelatable. One trick to tone down the opulence is to include traditional, minimalist, or vintage furniture juxtaposed to the more dramatic pieces.  Another tip is to include pastels or darker colors as a contrast if the room seems too busy or overwhelming. As you play with design,  you’ll find that your decor takes on a life of its own, becoming a version of glamor that fits your personality best.
